Boat builder Chris Craft was well known for their inboard engines and in the late 1940'sgot into the outboard motor business with a 5 1/2hp Challenger & 10hp Commander. These two models were offered through the 1953 season and were well regarded, fast outboards. A patent dispute with Mercury cause Chris Craft to abandon the short lived venture, and they sold the tooling to the Oliver Tractor Company. Oliver reissued the motors in 1955 with different branding, and then retooled and made their own line of outboards until the early 1960's.
